Comment Share
Carter, Stacy M.Entwistle, Vikki A.

Our use of the term perspective here is shaped by mid-20th century symbolic interactionism. In this theorization of the social world, all people have a perspective. These perspectives are somewhat shared and malleable, are constructed through interaction, and shape the way the social world is perceived. This means the same objects, while they may have similar meanings for some social actors,…

Competing Ontologies of Musical Improvisation
Comment Share
Smilansky, UriLewon, Marc

The idea of improvisation, broadly defined, has been integral to our imagination of the medieval musical past. It can be related to many elements of production: to the act of un-notated creation; to the manipulation and amplification of notated materials; to our observance of rigid rules and formulae; or to spontaneous freedom

Kulovesi, KatiRecio, María Eugenia

Is international climate change law softening? Our analysis of this question takes place against the backdrop of commentaries on the 2015 Paris Agreement as a hallmark of a new era whereby the legally binding structures of the top-down Kyoto Protocol are replaced by a softer, bottom-up framework for global climate governance

ANDRESEN, Maike

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the impact of the ‘home country’ in self-initiated expatriates (SIEs) research. Chapter 2 Freedom of speech in the age of digitalisation
Comment Share

The author analyses one of the ‘Four Freedoms’—the freedom of speech—which is closely connected to political rights. Digitalisation has created a number of opportunities for ‘speech’ and reduced the barriers in human communication and thought transfer. However, digitalisation is also associated with threats to freedom of speech and the wrong use of it. In this chapter, a legal analy…

Chapter 2 Fighting Avant-Garde with Phenomenology
Comment Share

The article discusses Gustav Shpet’s phenomenology and aesthetic theory as part of early Soviet culture. The author suggests that the ‘official’ acceptance of Shpet’s philosophy, particularly through GAKhN, is emblematic of the internal complexity of the cultural regime in the 1920s. Shpet’s pre-revolutionary phenomenology was praised for its modernizing potential, while his later ant…
