This collection is the result of a large project, which started in 2015, and
of many engaging discussions with scholars, who have contributed to our
research over the years. We are indebted to the Academy of Finland and
the Kone-foundation for funding our project Dealing with Difference:
Peddlers, Consumers and Trading Encounters in Finland, 1840–1960.
Thank you for financing and believing in our research!
A great many scholars have inspired us, and we wish to thank Klara
Arnberg, Åsa Bharathi Larsson, Katherine Borland, Theresa Johnsson,
Pirita Frigren, Janet Gilmore, Eirinn Larsen, James Leary, Dorothy Noyes,
Ariadne Schmidt, Sami Suodenjoki, Ulla Teräs, Carolina Uppenberg and
Sigrid Wadauer. They have shared their thoughts and insights, giving us
helpful responses to our work in progress.
