Introducing the systematic science mapping framework: an innovative and mixed approach for macro scale reviews

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce a novel mixed-methods framework design for
large-scale literature reviews which can encompass thousands of publications, including an
entire scientific field, referred to as the Systematic Science Mapping (SSM) Framework. The
SSM Framework establishes a “big picture” or macro view of a field of inquiry’s evolution,
a thematic analysis of the research in the field, and synthesizes findings
