As Figure 28.1 indicates, the amount and type of renewable capacity developed in the region
varies significantly by country.1
In addition, while almost all MENA countries have increased
their investments in developing alternative energy resources, the contribution of their renewables to the total global electricity supply does not yet exceed half of one percent (BP, 2021).
Nevertheless, the MENA’s rate of growth in renewable power generation has outpaced that of
all other regions in the world
