Need for better understanding and more accurate estimation of radiative fluxes in urban environments, specifically urban surface albedo and exitance, motivates development of new remote sensing and three‐dimensional (3D) radiative transfer (RT) modeling methods.
This chapter describes the research activities of the Royal Military Academy on remote sensing applied to mine action. Remote sensing can be used to detect specific features that could lead to the suspicion of the presence, or absence, of mines. Work on the automatic detection of trenches and craters is presented here
Beginning with a tribute to the late Chris 'Zithulele' Mann, a poet and activist who was deeply immersed in Dante, this chapter comments on some of the patterns that emerge from the creative contributions of the Dantessa students.

The discovery of the two inherited susceptibility genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 in the mid-1990s created the possibility of predictive genetic testing and led to the establishment of specific medical programmes for those at high risk of developing breast cancer in the UK, US and Europe. The book provides a coherent structure for examining the diversity of practices and discourses that surround developm…
Technology Assessment (TA) is an interdisciplinary field that deals with emerging, technology-induced societal problems for the purpose of shaping technology and technological development. TA is a perfect case for problem-oriented interdisciplinarity at the science-society interface. This chapter goes further and sheds light on a specific approach in TA, namely Prospective Technology Assessment…
